Another ferry, another country! Talinn.

Tallinn, Harju County, Estonia
Drove to the city to catch the 7.30 am ferry to Talinn in Estonia. Always wanted to go there. One and a half hour trip, very smooth. Walked into the UNESCO listed old city, after seeing ugly concrete remains of some Russian buildings, very tatty. Old city is peaceful and slightly decaying-looking. Art work in the botanical gardens close to the old city walls. Went to look at St. Olaf's church, once the tallest building in the world!! Then the Holy Spirit Lutheran church, more ornate but still plain. Walked through the city, lots of souvenir shops, then backed track looking for outdoor lunch. John's "local" wild boar was delicious but had actually come from Holland!

Then we took an open top city bus tour; really excellent content and leant a lot . On Tompea Hill, looked at some war monuments, more city walls and the amazingly ornate St. Alexander Nevsky Russian orthodox cathedral. Another less ornate church completed our quartet of churches as we wandered back to the boat.

Amazing story: when we parked the car in the morning, I had taken the small change tin to pay. Left it on top of the ticket machine. Incredibly, it was still there when we got back 12 hours later, still containing 30 Euros. Never would have happened in Aus!!
