Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria
So wet today we stayed in camp - in fact, I went back to bed after brekkie while John did some work on the ongoing itinerary.

Decided at lunch time to get into all the wet weather gear - boots, trousers and coats, and set off by bus for Innsbruck . Population of 130,000, capital of the Tyrol. Situated in the valley of the the Inn river, we could not see the surrounding mountains most of the day. Explored the old town (Altstadt), then looked at the Golden Roof ( Goldenes Dachl) with 2657 gilded copper tiles over a window overlooking the old town square. Next, the over-the-top rococo St. Jacob's Dom (cathedral). Should have looked at the Hofkirche but missed it- includes bronze statue by Albrecht Durer of King Arthur.

Then the magnificent Hofburg, third home of the Empress Maria Theresa. Duly wowed by the 31 metre long Giant's Hall ( Reisensaal) with magnificent ceiling frescoes and hundreds of portraits of her 16 children, (including those who had died, painted floating on clouds.) One portrait showed her with her husband, son and daughter, all three deceased!!

Sorry we missed out on the cable/funicular going up the mountain, and also on the Alpine Zoo- bet all the animals were snug in their beds and not walking around in the rain!

Hair cuts for us both, then some shopping on the way home, for me and for the Boomer, before dinner and bed - raining again!

Innsbruck - one of my favorite cities, even if it is many years since I've been there. So beautiful, pity it was raining for you. But that's life!
