Castles and monasteries.

Maulbronn, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany
As we had camped in the castle car park, we were ready to get an early shuttle bus up to the castle. Hollenzollern Castle has been likened to Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria (the "Chocolate Box Castle") Although it seems so from afar, perhaps not from close up, although imposing, perched in its own mountain (Berg Hohenzollern). Took a guided tour, entirely in German so not so meaningful! Nevertheless, the castle interior was impressive. Had to wear felt overshoes as we walked through the rooms - actually a ploy for us to clean and polish their wood and tiles!! Then walked the ramparts before descending once more on foot to the car park.

Set off on the motorway through Stuttgart towards Maulbronn .

Maulbronn Cistercian Monastery is UNESCO listed as a complex (got its listing due to water collection and drainage system!) and is very impressive to visit. Beautiful buildings, including impressive Gothic church, dating from 1147 and built over 12th-14th Centuries. So quiet after the tour groups have left. Cloisters, refectories, store rooms etc, It is still used as a high school and for music and theological events.

Camped in the Stelplatz in the town. Rob suggested John have a whiskey. The ice he added was 1000 years old, brought back from a glacier in Iceland!!!!!!! John was sure the good whiskey tasted even better!
