Cartagena, Region of Murcia, Spain and Canary Islands
Bused into town. Wow, the heat is intense, 33 again today. We knew nothing about the Carthaginian and Roman history of this town, so lots to see and read. Started with the Punic Wall Experience - remains of ancient walls with displays and a video detailing the wars between the Carthaginians and the Romans.

Then the Castle de la Concepcion . Got to the top of the hill via a Panoramic Lift, riding up in a glass elevator inside a spiral staircase, giving views out across the harbour. (Cartagena is a large naval and commercial port). Walked all around the castle, really one large square tower, and some ruins, climbing higher to better views and reading more as we went. We could see the Roman Theatre from the castle, and great views out to sea.

Down to the town and found a great place for lunch in the old town. Another try at paella - still disappointing but a great lunch anyway.

Then we walked through the Roman Theatre museum - an amazing architectural feat of blending the top of the museum to the bottom level of the Roman Theatre, which we then walked all over in the blazing sun.

Finally the Roman Forum and Baths complex, undercover fortunately. Probably the best documented Roman Bath complex we have seen in all Europe!

Then a wander through some of the old town. Narrow streets, interesting facades ( some with no actual building behind it ) and some beautiful old buildings. A cold drink before home. The city is very quiet at siesta time.

Bus back to camp again, to ourselves tonight, more washing to do before setting off to the Sierra Nevada tomorrow.
