Tarifa, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands
Booked a taxi that took us the 45 km to Gibraltar. Stopped on the way to take photos of the Rock from a distance and across to Africa again.

Crossed the border on foot to be greeted by an English emigration officer . Then we took a couple of buses to get to the cable car. Up to The Top of The Rock. Greeted by lots of Macaques - tailless wild monkeys that emigrated from Africa and stayed! Rob almost "wore" his coffee when one rushed into the cafe and grabbed his meat pie (silly tourist left the door open) then we watched a stupid pair feed the monkeys, unable to read notices everywhere about a 4000 pound fine for feeding them. They are wild, and they bite!

Set off to explore the nature reserve at the top of the Rock and guessed we walked over 7 km, mostly downhill, while we looked at the stalagmites and stalactites in St Michael's Cave, the Great Siege tunnels (1783), WW2 tunnels, Moorish Castle and more monkeys. All the time, we enjoyed fabulous views of the town, the harbour and out to sea, and across to Africa, that seemed nearer than 11km away.

The town is so English - red post boxes, black litter bins, English brand shops like Morrison's supermarket, but they still have left hand drive cars and drive on the right. Somewhere there were red double decker buses but we did not see one. All very busy and crowded. Traffic chaotic when they close the only north - south road so planes can take off on the east-west runway just over the border from Spain.

By the time we had lunch in an English pub in Irish Town, from a very English menu, we felt it was time to bus it to the border again, cross over and find a taxi home. Walked through Casemates, the centre of town, where they were preparing for the National Day tomorrow.

Another fantastic day of exploring, and another country to add to the list!
