Most south western point of Europe-Cape St Vincent

Porto Covo, Estremadura, Portugal
Decided to have a slower day, and not make Lisbon after all. Drove to Sagres but objected to paying 20 Euros to see inside a fort on the headland, especially when you could not see through the curtain walls to see if it was worth visit. ( World famous Alcazar in Seville only cost 9 Euros.)

After photos and then coffee overlooking the headland, drove to Cape St Vincent . Most south western point in Europe. Explored the market stalls and light house complex then drove all day parallel to the coast, stopping to look at views along the way. Lunch overlooking a surf beach at Monte Clerigo (lots of surfers and surf schools around)

Cliffs along this coast are really impressive, with crashing Atlantic surf and sandy sheltered beaches. Seems you can camp anywhere, as we saw lots of camped Motorhomes at various cliff top spots.

We also saw plantations of cork wood trees. The bark is cut off to about 4-6 feet above the ground and dried, while the trunk regenerates its bark again.

Drove along the Vincentine coast of the Portuguese Algarve region. Drier inland of the coastal strip than further south, desert like at times! Olive trees and citrus. Found by chance the little cliff top settlement of Porto Covo, so had a early stop. Overlooking a lovely sandy beach. Walked to the cliff top, a drink in a village bar then back for John to do some more computer stuff and me to catch up on chores. Then dinner. Another thunderstorm in the night!
