Cuacos de Yuste, Extremadura, Spain and Canary Islands
Late relaxed brekkie. Again, so good to be with old friends in a real house! We were taken to Monfragüe National Park to watch vultures perched on the craggy hill tops, some taking off and soaring overhead. Did not see any black storks, which we assumed would be like jabirus back home, but we also saw herons and wild deer. The park itself had a peaceful and beautifully remote feel about it.

Drove on to Plasencia, the nearest town to Marilyn and Pip . Attractive "old town" with narrow cobbled streets, almost Gaudi-like cathedral, with old and new cathedral buildings joining each other, a style not seen before. Walked the market square; good to have Marilyn's Spanish to explain the various sausages on sale. Saw a purple skinned fruit, size of a large mango, that was ..... a mango!

Stopped to watch the world go by in the square while we had coffee, then drove to Toril, a small, peaceful village on the edge of the National Park. Marilyn had booked lunch, at 3 pm, and the meal was especially for us. Only one other group dining. We had a fish and potato stew, then pork and green beans then a delicious cream desert. Marilyn explained that the Spanish eat so many vegies they grow themselves that restaurant food rarely has vegies.

Then we went out again to explore Cuacos de Yuste itself. Tiny narrow streets, overhanging rooms, some buildings almost crumbling away. Some houses decorated prettily or adorned with flower boxes. Shopped for locally brewed beer, pate and creamy goats' cheese.
Stopped in at the local bar for a drink and to get the internet, as Marilyn has no internet at home. Back home for even more food and drink, then late to bed.
