Burgos. El Cid!!

Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain and Canary Islands
Drove from camp across vast open spaces- like the Wild West! Drove into Burgos, so we could see the statue of El Cid, 11th century mercenary and hero. He sits astride his horse, sword held high and cloak flying! Not quite like I remember is the 1961 movie with Charlton Heston and Sophia Loren.

Drove across plains of drying sunflower crops and hundreds of stacked hay or straw bales, until the country got greener nearer to Bilbao .

The buses in Bilbao are called "Bilbobus" and river boats "Bilboat". Basque buses are called"Bizkaibus". They speak a different language here too-Basque, with more K, X and Zs. Many road signs, etc, are in two languages, Basque totally different from Spanish.

Arrived at the Aires, where Rob and Rob had camped the previous night, high up overlooking the city- fabulous views.

Rob had said it was quiet........... Before we went to sleep the party music started up close by. At 12.30am, the roaring cheer went up in unison by the winners of the football match at the stadium below us!!!
