Bilbao and The Guggenheim!

Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain and Canary Islands
Caught the bus into the city. Very quiet as it was Sunday. Went first to the Fine Arts Museum,(Belle Artes) and really enjoyed a slow walk through, appreciating the fantastic collection of Old Masters, Basque art and sculpture, and the modern stuff we skimmed through very quickly. Then took a walk in search of lunch and found a cafe opposite the Guggenheim.

The Guggenheim is a picture everyone has seen, but the classic photo must be taken from the top of a nearby building! Nonetheless, it is imposing, even on a dull day rather than in brilliant sunlight, and don't forget the dog, 40 feet high and covered in flowers!

We entered and looked through the galleries but felt we did not see much art . 2 levels were an exhibition in progress so we only really saw modern art on level 3, (from the Guggenheim Foundation Collection), lots of crazy installations, and an amazing building. Definitely a place to visit once, but maybe not again, although we did enjoy being there.

Checked out the art outside, on the river bank, then walked along the river bank until we reached the old uptown. Out of time, so headed back to camp.
