Longues-sur-Mer, Lower Normandy, France
Scene of the June 6th D-Day Landings in WW2.

Started by looking around the monuments on the headland at St Côme-de-Fresné . Cinema showing, on a 360 degree, 9 screen set up, old video and film clips of the lead up to the landings. Fresh and windy overlooking the sea. Hard to imagine the thousands coming ashore.

Then on to the Musée Debarquement, with lots of good short films and explanatory models. Coffee overlooking the harbour. The Allies towed huge concrete blocks across the Channel and created an artificial "Mulberry Harbour" here at Arromanche-les-Bains.

Lunch on a headland, then on to Omaha Beach( there were 5 areas of beach landings, named Sword, Omaha, Juno, Gold and Utah.)

Finally the American War Cemetery, where over 9000 military are buried. Good displays and films again, so we are so much better involved about the events of that day in June and the weeks after, leading up to the fall of Paris.

Thought we would buy some local cider and apple brandy(Calvados). The lady selling at her farm could not manage a smile, let alone a "thank you".

Back to a free camping spot where we had lunch, on the cliffs overlooking the beaches. At Longues-sur-Mer. Beautiful sunset. Calvados tasted terrible!
