Fort George , Inverness.

Walked along the sea front to the small town of Stonehaven and looked at the harbour and the sea. Windy but dry and sunny at times. We were so lucky to have dry weather.

After coffee, walked back and drove north again . Went in search of Roman ruins at Garrison Hill but could not see them, only identify where they should have been.

Drove towards Aberdeen. Beautiful country up here, even in winter. Around Aberdeen then to look at Sueno's Stone. 6.5 metre high stone monolith, enclosed in glass, dating from about 900 AD. Supposedly the carvings all over it depict the victory of the Scots over the Picts. Amazing carvings of men, horses and even the decapitated losers.

Then we went to Fort George. Situated on a headland overlooking the sea and the Moray Firth, constructed in the 1760s, Fort George is "the finest example of Georgian military architecture in Britain" and still a working army base.

We walked and climbed around. Looked at the views and took in the atmosphere of the site, including barrack rooms with life size soldier models, a collection of Georgian weaponry, and a really good museum of the Queen's Highlander regiments. Ran out of time again and left as they closed. Drove to a camp site near Culloden.
