Time to look at Robbie Burns' house, where Scotland's national poet lived for many years, with his wife Jean Armour until he died in 1796 . Interesting to look at paintings, drawings, poetry, of course, and the furnishings of the little house they lived in. Supposedly the couple were well off, with a maid, in the late 1700s, but no running water, and only 4 rooms up and down. Then walked to the local church to see the rather over-the-top white mausoleum where Burns and his wife were buried.

After coffee, drove to "The Sweetheart Abbey" at New Abbey. 13th century Cistercian abbey founded by Lady Devorgilla of Galloway, the wife of the founder of Balliol College, Oxford, (John Balliol) in his memory. When she was buried in front of the altar, his heart, in a casket, was buried with her, hence the name. As it was only a ruin and it was pouring with rain, took a photo and had lunch before driving on along the shore of Sołway Firth.

A really wet afternoon as we drove west. Stopped at a smokehouse to buy lots of food goodies before driving through Stranraer to camp at a farm. Ferry to Ireland tomorrow.
