Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
This was a more relaxing day. We got up and went across the street and scoured the restaurants there for breakfast. We ended up in a Syrian restaurant called The Diwan Al Mihand and had an eventful meal that was tasty and interesting. We had a bit of a challenge figuring out what to order not knowing many of the words.

Many had eggs with a side order of a Syrian pancake that had what looked like ricotta cheese between the pancakes, topped with pistachio crumbs and serviced with rose water syrup . Others had fluffy omelettes with cheese. I had a Syrian something that was scrambled eggs with peppers and onions. The little round puffy bread was sweet, soft and chewy. The meal started with very salty pickles (a type of cucumber and radishes I think), green and black olives. They provided a plate of pastries to end the meal. Little pieces of a variety of baklava is the best I can do to describe it. Little birds nest made from shredded wheat with nuts in the middle and honey. A couple had chopped pistachios, others were rolled shredded wheat with nuts and honey. They were all good.

We came back to the condo and spent some time at the pool and then got dressed to go to the marina. Ralph and I both have blisters so fixed ourselves up with band aids. We took a boat ride around The Palms to see the sky line from the other side. I is indescribable. The number of very tall buildings side by side and behind and between each other are imposing and beautiful. There is an entire island built for the Princess of Oman . Given the number of yachts moored in her slip it looks like she had guests.

A helicopter landed at one of the royal properties that line the shore. The view of the Burj Al Arab (7 star hotel that we saw yesterday from the outside) was amazing, although still doesn't look as impressive as many of the other hotels.

The Palms from the outside at ground level don't show the incredible engineering feat to build it. The huge rocks that are piled around the berms are inspected daily for movement. The buildings around the outside are hotels while residences are on each of the palms. We went to The Observatory at the Marriott Hotel because of the view it offers. The prince's yacht looked much smaller from the 52ND floor, although no doubt out does everything else in the harbour.

We had drinks and appies and met Mauia, who works with Gina who happened to be in Dubai on business. Ralph accidentally spilled a full frozen strawberry margarita on my lap. It didn't show on my black pants and I was able to rinse it out of my top and shirt. Other than being cold from the air conditioning given I was wet on about of a third of my body, it was a fun night. We walked around the marina and then caught the metro back. Some got pizza and then to bed early for an early flight. Some of us were again woken by the call to pray.
