Cook Islands ahoy

Rarotonga, Southern Cook Islands, Cook Islands
After threatening the lady who lives in the satnav with a horrible prolonged death on the bitumen of Auckland if she tried any funny business, we made it clear and on time at Auckland airport for our early morning flight to Rarotonga. A little over three hours after leaving an overcast and cool city we walked onto the tarmac of a tropical island that is really not more than a tiny dot in the Pacific Ocean. And damn it, we keep misplacing time, this time it was a whole friggin day! Someone owes me a day and two hours. I'm not going home until I get them back. Anyway, the beautiful weather that greeted us was worth the chronological cost. Our first impression of this place? If you asked someone to draw a tropical island complete with palms, tiny roadside stores, people riding scooters around in their thongs and sunshine, this is what they would draw. And chatting to people who have been here a little while have basically told us what you see is what you get. Prepare to run on island time and get used to not doing much. Jane and I agreed we were willing to give it a damn good shot at fitting in.
Our first evening was spent sitting on the beachfront watching the sun go down, I guess because it's the only show in town . But what a show. And as we were sitting there we got talking to some people who are going to be married right here tomorrow afternoon - so that's the afternoon's entertainment looked after.
I'm hoping to start digging around for some more unknown local historical facts - don't worry, I'm already on the trail of a couple- it looks like I'll have plenty of time to investigate and bore you all shitless. Speak to you tomorrow
