All Blacks 30 - England 22. Neat intro to San Fran

San Francisco, California, United States
All Blacks 30 - England 22. That was the score announced over the PA system just as we were about to start our descent into San Francisco airport. The head wind which is most unusual on this route, a 30 minute delay in leaving Auckland, plus waiting on the tarmac for a United 747 to leave meant we were alongside the air bridge at 11.10 am, some 40 minutes late.

Then to queue for over an hour at immigration meant that some passengers missed their connecting flight to further points within the USA. For me it didn’t matter. Today was a relocating day anyway.

The $8.25 ride by Bart into Powell St and a drop into the Visitors Centre to uplift some maps and brochures plus buy the City Pass for unlimited bus, muni and cable car rides plus with the free wi-fi meant that I was connected again to the real world!

Then back underground and onto the N Judah line for my first experience in this city’s light rail system. Yes, Auckland could do this this type of public transport down the wide roads that use to carry the trams in years gone by.

Later that afternoon cousin Brenda flew in from Vancouver to join me for the week.

Good match : Bad score Two outstanding off-loads whilst being tackled gave the All Blacks two excellent tries but despite that the game was very tight throughout. NZ were 17:3 up very early on. England came back to 22:20 up before a penalty and one of those tries late on gave the All Blacks the final advantage.

Good luck on your travels ... I am not travelling this year but this trip looks like one I would like to incorporate into a 'Round the World' trip. I shall be looking in on you as you go. Peter
