Hess Vineyards

Last stop was to see the Hess Collection museum and tasting of the Hess wine.

I just love the typewriter with the real flames.

A short tour was done as well.

The Christian brothers still own the property. Wonder if their communion wine comes from here and if so which quality?

The Hess Collection was founded by Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess, who first purchased vineyards on Mount Veeder in 1978. The winery is best known for its flagship Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines, and single vineyard designates from our estate vineyards in Napa Valley. A leader in sustainable practices, The Hess Collection adheres to founder Donald Hess’ philosophy: “Nurture the land; return what you take.”

Located in the historic stone winery originally constructed in 1903 by Colonel Theodore Gier, the winery first opened to the public in 1989. It since has earned international recognition for its wine, culinary and visitor programs, and provides free public access to Donald Hess’ extensive private contemporary Art Museum. From their web site.

Then the drive home and the unexpected bonus of stopping to see night view of the Golden Gate bridge from one of the Marin Head viewpoints. It was fine and clear but the wind had a real COLD nip in it.
