These shoes are made 4 walking: Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco, California, United States
San Francisco is built on 43 hills covering 49 square miles (7 miles by 7 miles) with water on 3 sides. Each district has its own unique character.

While I have made at least 6 trips over many decades to this wonderful city, this time will be a bit different. Instead of staying either out in a dormitory suburb or up in the Nob Hill area and being taken around or simply being able to walk, this time the use of the different forms of public transport will be paramount as I am staying out in the Inner Sunset area near the Golden Gate Park. This Park which is 20% larger than Central Park, I had only driven pass. With the high frequency N MUNI subway / light rail line, getting into town should be no problems at all.

So all aboard “B&B’s Mystery Tours of San Francisco” as to where will we end up on today's tour of the City, who knows!

Day One of the city itself and my intention was to catch the #28 bus just 2 blocks from 1677 17th Ave, down Moraga St to board at 19th Ave and get off at Fort Point which is at one end of the Golden Gate Bridge … perhaps walk out to the first pier then turn around and either catch the #28 bus to the end of the route at Fort Mason or even walk from Fort Point to the Fishermen’s Wharf area.

Fort Point and after last night's magnificent view looking back over the city, this was our first daylight look at this magnificent feat of engineering that took more than 4 years to build and was completed in 1937.

Useless information time:
- The 2 great cables contain enough strands of wire some 80,000 miles that will encircle the equator three times.
- Enough concrete was poured into the piers and anchorages that would pave a five foot / 2 metre wide sidewalk from New York to San Francisco.

Hardly anyone was around being so early but we had the first of many obligatory Kodak moments that just had to be taken.

Then out we strode. The first thing that I noticed was the constant sound of the car tyres driving over the expansion joints on the road. It was loud and constant.

Soon the first span was reached and onwards we went ... Perhaps just to the middle then turn around? Middle came and a decision had to be made ... Do we walk to Sausalito or turn around?

The skies were clear, no fog and not much wind. Of course we will continue to head on across the 1.2 mile bridge!
