Clam Chowder > Chocolate > Cable Car = near heaven

San Francisco, California, United States
Fisherman’s Wharf is where the fishing fleet still ties up.

A late lunch at the famous Boudin and of course a sour dough and clam chowder.

A bit run down but that was how it felt to me on my last visit with blocks of souvenir shops trying to entice the wary tourists inside. I went into a camera shop to see if they had a cable for my waterproof camera which I knew I had left at home. No, they didn’t but having seen my camera asked me if I wanted a wide angle lens that screwed onto the front of my current lens. OK, show me. Well a very professional sales job started ... that was a much rehearse one as he showed me web sites on his phone with the full list price in Euros. Then a review sites followed by a demonstration. Yes, it was impressive. But how much! But what about one of the new HD polarising filters? Again a demonstration and yes it was marvellous. Finally the price. US $ 1,300 but I will give it to you at $ 900 and throw in the filter. Not interested and walking out of the shop he offered me the whole package for US $ 400! More than a pushy salesperson and it left a nasty taste.

Finally it was getting towards dusk and the final stop was Ghirardelli Square and the all important chocolate buying for Brenda. Sorry my NZ chocoholics, not coming straight home so no presents.

The sun had set just after five as we queued with the other tourists watching or listening to the buskers trying to extract a few coins from us tourists for the cable car ride back to Union Square. Front seat inside so that was a great way to head back. These rattling unique cable cars date back to 1873 and are an official National Historic Landmarks.

Off at Union Square and all those bright lights.

The Cheesecake Factory was on the 6th floor of Macy’s so it was into the lift / elevator we went. Wow! Mouth dropping offerings. A take home piece of Hersey’s Chocolate cheesecake and the views of the ice skating ring and Union Square way below was breathtaking for my camera lens.

Not going down via the lift but via the escalator floor by floor was an interesting decision. Two hours later we exited the store and time to head back to Inner Sunset via what will be an all familiar N line light rail ride along with the other commuters.
