Flores to Rio Dulce = overwater cabins like Tahiti

Rio Dulce, Izabal, Guatemala
Left 10 minutes early at 10 to 7 than the scheduled time of 7 am en route to Rio Dulce and thank goodness for this. Along the way an articulated truck had just turned over a few minutes before us arriving onto the scene. Thank goodness for the narrowness of the van or else we would have been stuck there for hours. The police had not even arrived when we quickly sneaked passed the accident scene. Wonder if the driver escaped OK? Judging by the bystanders just standing around I think so.

Passing tomatoes being grown, fields of sweet corn and cattle the rain that started the journey stopped or should I say eased.

Arrived at Rio Dulce 10.30 am, unloaded the van and then loaded the boat plus the toilet stop here, it was all aboard 4 to a seat onto our boat 30 minutes later for the few minutes crossing to our overnight stay at Catamaran Island Hotel. Actually it is not really an island. No vehicle access to the peninsular. First it was a slight detour to see the castle or Castillo de San Felipe.

The covered boat sheds with 4 boats in it belongs to the Guatemala's President.

We all got over the water cabins. Just like Tahiti but I make no secret that I think that the Tahiti over water bungalows would be much better than these cabins. Don’t get me wrong, my cabin ‘Hotel’ was really nice. Suppose later it would to hear the sound of water lapping under the cabin as a boat went by. Plus again I have the choice of 3 beds to sleep in tonight. Wonder which one?
