Livingstone @ 90 km per hour in that driving rain

Lívingston, Izabal, Guatemala
Bags into our cabins and then just before 12 noon back into the boat for those who wanted to and the 4 hour round trip to Livingstone

Rain coat at the ready and soon these were needed plus the provided large plastic sheet. Suggestion. The sheet would have been better if it was clear and not black ... then we could see through it like a visor. It was the driving rain on the face that felt like pins were being driven in. It certainly reminded me of the boat ride under the Iguassu Falls several years ago! Ouch! Part of the pain on the face was the speed that the boat was going. The lake was flat and the 115 hp engine certainly pushed us along at a fair speed.

The yachts from around the world judging from the home port on the yachts and boats find this place a real haven from the hurricane season out in the Caribbean Sea. The mountains surrounding it helps protect the boats moored at anchor.

Passing the iguanas high up in the tree branches plus plenty of white herons. Passed through these lovely water lilly ponds.

A beer stop (thanks Aunty Becs) and a chance to buy some sea shell brackets from the local children for just Q 10 / NZ $ 1.50 / US $ 1.30.

Arrived at the Caribbean seaside port of Livingstone at 1.20 pm. Lunch at El Malecon restaurant. Chicken tortillas de Harina was my choice Q 25 / NZ $ 3.80 / US $ 2.20.

Armed with an double cappuccino flavoured ice cream Q 11 / NZ $ 1.70 / US $ 1.40 it was back on the river just after 3 pm for the 50 minute high speed ride back to the hotel. Remember that the boat was going at 90 km a hour. The rain had stopped and while the lack of driving rain was missed in some ways, it made for an uneventful trip back.

Dinner that night was in the hotel restaurant and Bec’s recommendation was to try the local sea food base tapado Q 110 / NZ $ 17 / US $ 14. Full of tiny prawns, a whole crab, local whole fish and while it was messy to eat, boy was it really tasty! Thanks Bec.
