Antigua - a photographer’s nightmare!

Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Guatemala
It was a changeover day meaning last night was the farewell dinner for those leaving us and tonight at 6 pm the usual pre-tour meeting followed by welcome dinner for the 11 newbies.

With the Elizabeth Bell’s morning walking tour not on, it was back to ‘B’s mystery tour‘. So armed with a map, the weather app saying it would be sunny all day with a high of and just 22 C, it was up and out just after 7 am for a morning walkabout for just an hour to hopefully take pictures of the Volcán de Agua framed under the arch and the city’s buildings without people.

How successful was I? Read on.

I wasn’t the only person out and about ... A wedding party, merchants setting up their stalls, a few in the main plaza, newspaper seller and several groups of joggers …

There was no one inside the Igelesia La Merced (church) just around the corner from the hotel.

Breakfast across the road at Hotel La Posadira - La hamburguesa Gigante. No, I did not get a giant hamburger but instead their mixed Omelette = ham and cheese, black beans, fresh farmers cheese. Cream and toasts. Interesting breakfast! With the coffee it was Q 79 / NZ $ 12.10 / US $10.

Then back and more street wandering to see what else Antigua has to offer the tourists.

Bec had mentioned to me to go and see Santo Domingo. See the next entry for why did I spend 2 hours there!

Back out and decided to circumnavigate the town clockwise and see what else caught my camera lens.

Being Sunday, services were on. Went into both San Francsico and Escuela de Cristo churches but no photos were allowed.

By now I had been on my feet for some 5 hours so time for a rest and get this blog further up to date and more importantly hopefully published!

I titled this entry “Antigua - a photographer’s nightmare!” I often judge my day’s success by the number of photos that I take. Yes, today was expensive with the many images as seen below plus the Hotel Casa Santo Domingo entry!

After the 6 pm group meeting with the 11 newbies, it was then off to Las Palmas for dinner. Steak was recommended so my order was for Filet Mignon Q 119 / NZ $ 18.20 / US $ 15.10. Oh, and add the 10% service charge as well. Cooked with red wine sauce and mushroom. Grilled tenderloin 6 oz fillet mignon, topped with red wine sauce and bacon wrapped. Small salad, potato and corn on the cob and garlic bread.
