Bocas del Toro or Bocas Town to Boquete

Boquete, Chiriquí, Panama
Bar Y Restaurante Mana for an omelette US $4.50 and coffee $1.35 = US $ 6.25 after the added 10 % and then the 7 % tax. While the restaurant is only 2 doors along from our hotel and suppose to open at 8 am, island time meant that their staff arrive at 8 am to set up. My omelette arrived at 8.25 am ... More than enough time to eat it before the schedule 8.45 am departure from the hotel to walk back into town to catch the 9.30 am ferry. It was in fact one of the best omelette that I have had on this trip so was worth the short wait.

An upgrade to a mini van of US $ 5 each meant we could leave the hotel much later and cut many hours (5 - 6 in fact) off our journey.

The speed boat left at 9.20 am and with calmer waters the ride was much gentler and we got to Almirante 25 minutes later. It took an hour for the van to arrive and load up but soon we were off to Boquete.

Got there at 1 pm with plenty of time to roam the small town. Found out that white water rafting tomorrow was only an all day option. So it was either that or do the half day coffee tour.

Boquete is a small town on the Caldera River, in the green mountain highlands of Panama, in western-most Chiriquí Province, about 60 km. from the border with Costa Rica. Because of its altitude, some 1,200 metres above sea level, its climate is cooler than that of the lowlands. Its scenic location, temperature, and natural environment make it extremely popular with Panamanians, and attracts tourists from all over the world.

In Spanish, the word Boquete means 'gap or opening'. It was through this gap that curious gold seekers trekked, looking for a cheaper and quicker way to the Pacific. Farmers began settling the region near the end of the 19th Century. By the early 20th century, several villages had been populated: Lino, Quiel, Bajo Mono, Los Naranjos, and Bajo Boquete, which now is the districts' town center.

Boquete was founded on April 11, 1911. The head of the district was initially Lino, but it was moved soon after to Bajo Boquete. For many years, the district had three "corregimientos" (townships): Bajo Boquete, Caldera and Palmira. In 1998, the "corregimientos" of Alto Boquete, Jaramillo, and Los Naranjos were created. In addition to tourism, its main industry remains agriculture, especially the growing of coffee beans. Dinner at Baru Restaurant and Bar. Filet Mignon with a red wine reduction, bacon, mushroom and mashed potatoes for US $ 16.50 plus a Budweiser = US $21.86 after the taxes. The other picture is of a sea food platter for two.
