Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala
Another long relocate day from Rio Dulce to Antigua. Sunrise and the local fishermen were out.

Back on the boat at 7.40 am for the short hop back over to Rio Dulce and onto our private mini van.

Leaving Rio Dulce wondered why the cars and buses were stopped at the top of the bridge just out of town. Of course … a natural viewing spot looking down and over the lake below. How bizarre.

The route that we had to travel is between 2 ports so the road at times was dominated by these huge articulated semi-trailers.

Passed plantations, many pineapple, banana and coconut roadside stalls and soon the landscape became a bit barren.

One spot of the journey there were truck / car wash stations along the side of the road - one after another.

The photos partially shows the change in traffic and yes, it was at times slow to pass though one side of Guatemala City. This city that has some 7 million people.

Antigua an UNESCO World Heritage Site with well-preserved Spanish Baroque influenced architecture as well as a number of colonial churches. Again grid layout with narrow cobble stone streets.

Walking towards to markets found in front of the Compania de Jesus a temporary artesian co-operative market. Here I did buy my Guatemala souvenir, a wall hanging for Q 300 / NZ $ 50 / US $ 40. At least I knew where the money was going to and not to a middle person trader.
