HIGHLIGHTS Sun 22 Dec: Leon, volcano sandboarding

Leon, Nicaragua
It was only a 400 metre climb from the base 328 metres above sea level to the top of Volcan Cerro Negro.

At the very top had a wonderful 360 degree panoramic views plus of those below into the colourful crater not that far below.

I walked down the fine gravel … well, it was a controlled quick trot downwards. All I needed was a paddle / pole so that I could lean back a bit and ski down on my heels. I had wanted to take my big camera up and made the decision not to board down. Glad that I made this decision as I think I had just as much fun descending the 400 metres standing up on that controlled downwards slide with the fine gravel filling my shoes and the dust flying everywhere. No, I did not fall over!

Leon photos taken both late yesterday afternoon and early this morning taking advantage of that lovely light.

Largest Gigantona in the world. La Gigantona - its represent the Spanish Kingdom and its power was represent by the tall size, all the jewellery decoration represent all they was taking from America Latina and El Enano Cabezon, represent the local people small but the big head mean more smart than the Spanish conquers, was the first strike expression made by the local people from Sutiaba and Leon against the Spanish colonial system.
