My name was on a sign as I exited the customs area and after a short wait I was eventually taken to ETT's office to pay for my 3 day trip out east to Harar half way through my stay here.
First impressions of Addis. As I had read already in the reviews, a city undergoing construction in both buildings and the above ground metro. Roads were a mess and the traffic not exactly orderly. I'll let the photos do the talking.
Twenty degrees here today and after checking into G Adventures departure hotel, Ras Hotel where Nelson Mandela stayed, it was time to rehydrate with one of Harar’s brewery new Wailia beer which one of the staff recommended. Good choice as this turned out to be my preferred beer on the trip in contrast to the more popular and well established St Georges beer.
Dinner in the hotel of Roasted Lamb 136 birr / NZ$9 / US$6.70. Wailia lager 5% 330 ml. 18.45 birr / NZ$1.20 / US$.90c 1.5 litre Aqua (water) 14 birr / NZ$.90 / US$.70c.
Under the G Adventures group notice advising of what’s what, put up a notice seeking any interest from my fellow group in joining me on an all day trip of Addis that I had arranged months ago. Then it was sleep time or at least try to get some sleep after that journey from Auckland.
