Addis Ababa, Ādīs Ābeba, Ethiopia
30 years ago Ethiopia came into prominence with Bob Geldof's Band Aid raising money for anti-poverty efforts and the release of the song "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

Then a few years ago, Ethiopia made it onto my travel bucket radar list.

Firstly because of TV travel programmes and newspaper travel articles plus several on my Myanmar trip had visited this country.

Most people just do the historical northern circuit but I also wanted to see the less visited south with the various local tribes.

First G Adventures 12 day southern Ethiopia Discovery, Trip Code DES, to explore the enigmatic beehive houses of the Dorze and stopping in numerous villages for truly immersive cultural encounters with the Ari, Karo, Mursi, Hamer and Dassanech people. Along the way will visit two national parks and explore Lake Chamo by boat in search of crocodiles, hippos and bird life.

Then a 15 day northern Highlights of Ethiopia, Trip Code DEHE, to explore and discover rock-hewn churches in Lalibela and castles in Gondar, admire the monasteries of Lake Tana, discover the Simien Mountains and historical Axum.

In between these 2 tours had arranged a private 3 days trip east to the wall city of Harar.
