Lake Bishoftu

With fellow passenger Susanne, Messie our guide and Mokenen our driver, traffic was so slow getting out of Addis eventually leaving well into the afternoon. Trucks queuing up for diesel at the various petrol stations.

A stop at Lake Bishoftu being the longest and deepest of the 6 crater lakes in this area caused by the Rift Valley.

Finally made the Awash National Park main gate at 5.30 pm and with literally 45 minutes of daylight left, anything that we saw would be a bonus.

At the park gates picked up our park ranger / scout with rifle. First up was a kudu, then by the campsite was a crocodile who didn't move at all despite us being so close to it. Monkeys and warthogs as well.

With the sun setting, had just enough time to see the Awash Falls in the fading light.
