Overnight Lima

Miraflores, Lima, Peru
While touch down at Lima was supposed to be 4 pm (16:00), it did so at 4.35 pm (16:35) and I had half expected the worst ... no bag. Correct. I wasn't the only one. Thank goodness there was another LAN plane due in from Santiago at 6.00 pm (18:00). If there was no flight today, then my bag would have had to follow me to Cuba tomorrow and the catch-up to where ever I happen to be on tour. So I am really glad that this worst case scenario did not eventuate.

The helpful LAN ground staff called the B&B who had a car and driver (remise) at the airport waiting to pick me up and in turn was able to advise the driver what was happening with me.

I thought that Auckland's commute traffic was bad enough but the drive in the fading light to Residencial Miraflores B&B was worst still. Even using his local knowledge, the driver and locals certainly do not exactly practice "Merge like a zip"! Surprised not to see any accidents with cars so close merging all over the place. With the delay and parking changes, it cost US$40 instead of the US$20. Perhaps I should have just taken a taxi. But then the driver would have had to find Residencial Miraflores B&B, Gral. Borgono 280.

Having had 3 airline meals over the preceding 2 flights and some 18 hours to get here, thanks Ana Maria for the suggestion to walk the 2 blocks to Panchita. Their Chuletas de Chancho being two juicy pork chops with a side of mashed potatoes, baked apple and honey sauce - PEN49 soles / US$14.30 / NZ$22 was washed down with 2 bottles of Cusquena beer – PEN 9 soles / US$2.60 / NZ$4 each.

It was a 5.30 am (5:30) pick up back to the airport so set the 2 alarms for 5.15 am (5:15) and tried to get some sleep at 10 pm (22:00).
