Cigar or a Pina Colada?

Viñales, Pinar del Río, Cuba
Time to head back to Havana leaving Rancho San Vicente at 8.30 am (8:30) but first up with Abel our local guide was a 2.5 hour walk starting from Vinales main square, through the streets with the many B&B or Casa Particular and then into the surrounding tobacco fields.

One crop of tobacco is picked each year, dried for several months then 90% has to be sold to the government. The grower can dispose the remaining 10% as he feels fit. For this sombrero-clad guajiro (rural farmer) that we visited, he has a captive market with the many tourist groups coming by and willing to part with CUC$25 / US$25 / NZ$38 in exchange for 10 cigars. And no, I did not inhale when trying out the cigar.

Fully functional secadero (drying house) in which tobacco leaves are cured from February to May.

Later a refreshing Piña Colada CUC$2 / US$2 / NZ$3 at another farmer's house helped finish this relaxing end of tour walk.

Much better than the cigar!
