I wanted my HIPPO mouth WIDE open photo

Kasane Botswana, North West, Botswana
... but no luck!

We had a 5.15 am wake up call for a 6 am departure to nearby Chobe National Park and a 3 hour game drive.

After such a build up by travellers heading north and what our other Acacia group heading to Johannesburg saw on their previous late afternoon's game drive, plus what I had read about the over population of elephants here in Chobe National Park, I had high expectations. Sadly we saw only a small herd of elephants before the 7 am sunrise - too dark to take photos, some small game and bird life. :(

The 2 hour evening boat cruise leaving at 4 pm again did not provide us with a good view of the hippos - too far away and bad back lighting so ... no hippo photo shot with the mouth wide open. I did see one hippo on a far bank yawning though. Saw a couple of large herds of elephants including one herd crossing the river so all was not lost. Plus a crocodile lounging near by as our boat got stuck on the mud bank needing to be pull out added to the day's variety.

So I was really disappointed with Chobe National Park. These are animals living in their natural habit so this is what we are to expect. They are not performing animals ....

Never mind ... roll on Etosha National Park in Namibia.
