So sad to see these wild animals penned up

Albertina, Western Cape, South Africa
With the Robben Island trip cancelled due to high winds, we decided to move on along the Garden Route.

With a stop at Stony Point, Betty's Bay to see the penguins (yes, it was still very windy as the photos show), it was onwards along the picturesque coastal winding route.

After Gordon's Bay we stopped for lunch at Hermanus where we had planned to stay overnight, but with the wind still so strong here, what does one do for the rest of the day?

At the local "i" visitor information they told us of the special that the Garden Route Game Lodge were offering several hours away. Overnight stay, dinner, breakfast with 2 hour morning game drive to try and see the big 5 on their malaria free private game reserve.

I was not expecting much having seen the animals out in the wild. Tim had seen them many years ago when he went on his African safari but it was more than reasonable.

The condition of the animals surprised me. They were feed so did not have to hunt for their meals. Overweight "yes" to put it mildly ... but at least it was an excellent attempt to keep these species alive and breeding. For those who can not make it to a larger game park, this is a good compromise. Yes, I was disappointed in many ways ...

The meals were stupendous and accommodation more than wonderful capped off by another stunning sunset. A little heaven after the camping, Being low season it wasn't full.

Time to leave and eastward passing through several more sea side resort towns that were so empty I would hate to be here in high season ... but can easily see why this beautiful sandy coast line is so popular.
