Not much planned for the day, but we'll need to restock the fridge and pantry so we have meals for the next few days here at Yeppoon. We spent the morning just sitting under the shade of the awning enjoying the ocean outlook. We also had a conversation with a young couple from Hawaii who were in a motor home on the site next to us with their two children, Cedar and Maple. After lunch we did a shopping trip to Yeppoon Central Shopping Centre. With the shopping packed away, we walked the 1.5km into the Foreshore area.
A feature at the foreshore is the “Spirit Stone", a sculpture in Stanwell Sandstone by Maurice Lempire. It was a gift from the Rotary Club of Yeppoon to the people of Livingstone Shire to commemorate the Centenary of Federation and appears to be an iconic point of reference for the locals.
At a number of points along the foreshore fixed wooden sun lounges are installed and we found a couple in the shade so we could relax, watching various beach activities.
Just past the Keppel Bay Sailing Club along the foreshore we came across the Yeppoon Lagoon. Apparently the Lagoon only opened earlier this year, this 2500m2 of Bali style pool includes a shallow children’s play area, an informal lap swimming area and the highlight, a swim-up infinity edge with panoramic views across to the Keppel Islands.
Returning back towards the caravan park we looked at a number of murals painted on the Yeppoon SLSC and it was ironic that one featured a surf boat because just at that time a crew launched a surf boat, having to put significant effort into the oars to get it out over the white caps.
We'd worked up an appetite from our hour and a half walk. Roast chicken with a Mexican salad plus baked potato certainly hit the spot and was followed by pineapple with ice-cream for dessert.
