Today we took a drive to Eumundi to see what bargains we could pick up at the famous Eumundi Markets. Well, we weren't really looking for bargains because having been there before, we knew there wouldn't be any, but it's always interesting to see the range of products, food and services on offer.
What stood out on this visit was the large number of stalls offering pain relief or similar products. Claims of some of the spruikers were pretty amazing, including curing arthritis, warts and anxiety, making one wonder why mainstream doctors don't prescribe their offerings.
Despite the range of food offerings, nothing took our fancy and so we drove to nearby Nambour in search of some lunch. At first we seemed out of luck, but then Lucinda spotted a cafe named Sweet and Flour. We shared a turkey on sourdough toastie and a custard tart accompanied with tea for two. The food and the setting was just perfect.
From there we drove to Montville, a village in the hinterland we've visited a number of times. On the way we stopped at the Dulong Lookout where there is a viewing platform which provides views over a wide area of the Northern Sunshine Coast and Pacific Ocean. But smoke remaining from the fires at Peregian and further North near Maryborough meant today's view to the coast was not too clear.
Montville is a tourist mecca, with a wide range of arts and craft, clothing and food offerings, however pleasingly it was not at all crowed today. Lucinda couldn't resist a sterling silver pincushion in the shape of a frog from one of the antique shops and even though we'd had a custard tart at Nambour, we had to test the claim of Montville's best scones at Camphor Cottage. Bryon had plain while Lucinda had date and importantly they were served with real cream.
A feature of the streetscape is Montrose. Built in 1990, it is an authentic waterwheel designed by Helen Price-Dinning as a tribute to her father, Hugo Price. The building itself was constructed from local stone and the name is a contraction of Montville and the Montville Rose which still grows prolifically in the area.
The scones were good, but that means a light dinner tonight of boiled egg with some leftover avocado on toast.
