...I wonder how my hotel breakfasts get cheaper and cheaper as I move further west. This one even includes fresh orange juice
...I visit the cathedral and trying to visit the roof I am told all tickets are sold out for today
...I notice people lining up for something in a long line in the center of the cathedral. Turns out is to hug the statue of St. James in the center altar. A very famous ritual here.
...I see shells everywhere here - souvenirs, tshirts, walls, sidewalk, pilgrims' clothes.. The shell is a symbol of the Camino de Santiago it appears.
...passing by the cathedral I detect a strong smell of weed all around. Fun pilgrims indeed!
...I proceed to book a ticket for the next day online
...I wonder how it is no Spanish hotels have toilet brushes in toilets
...I read all the signs in Galician featuring prominently around the town - it really looks very similar to Portuguese
...I wonder how it is whenever you order a cappuccino, the Spanish waiter tells you they don't have it. So then you order cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and get a coffee with milk froth on top - essentially a cappuccino.
...I chill in a local park falling asleep on the grass a little
...I buy local chocolate liqueur (they have dozens of flavors though) produced on the basis of a kind of brandy called orujo
...I marvel at the omnipresence of beggars in this country - there's even one permanently camping outside my hotel and it's a pretty nice hotel
...I appreciate how tolerant hotel staff is here of my late checkout times - I hardly ever leave my room before 12pm, sometimes as late as 1pm. Not even one phone call ever.
...strolling around I realize 90% of tourists are locals. Easter is a typically Spanish high season for vacation
...I love how parking fees are waived during lunchtime in this country. Parking is usually paid from 9 till 12 and then from 3 till 7.
