Camp Verde, Arizona, United States
...we drive out to Sedona to see the famed Cathedral Rock and on the way there we pass on visiting Montezuma’s Castle, one of Arizona’s most recognizable landmarks
...I appreciate the positivity of Americans, which is reflected also in the way they speak. When there are two registers in a store and I approach the one that isn’t currently being used, the guy at the other one doesn’t say: that one is closed! He says: I can help you here, sir! See? Glass always half full, everyone.
...I am still shocked by gas price differences from state to state, with the West generally being pricier than the East and California definitely ranking as one of the most expensive ones
...we arrive in Sedona, which seems to be a Mecca of all things supernatural and psychic, complete with a tacky bazaar full of amulets, Chinese dreamcatchers and energy rocks.
...we climb the Cathedral Rock with dad and it’s a surprisingly short trek with amazing views. Not too hard and luckily it’s not hot. Just one section requires scrambling and is a bit annoying on the way down on account of crowds.
...we keep driving until we arrive at the Grand Canyon. Weather is still awesome and despite an admonishment here and there from a law-abiding tourist I fly the drone in several viewpoints and gather amazing footage.
...we drive on to Nevada so we can see the Hoover Dam on the next day!
...we are rather surprised to see snow on the roadside as we pass Vegas
...I am shocked by the octane strength of local gas – it starts at 85 and then thru 87 climbs to 91, which apparently is considered premium gas here. Whew!
...we arrive at night at a not too expensive hotel in a place called Boulder City. It has a casino on the premises so you can really feel you’re in Nevada!
...the hotel is pretty good for the price and we sleep well. Strangely, its wifi blocks Gazeta Wyborcza, a major Polish daily, but does allow the Pirate Bay (so does wifi at my work hahaha)
