One bad thing about flying to this area from Tampa is the lack of a nonstop flight to Reno, making it a long day. However the drive down 580 to Carson City, across elevation on Highway 50 and driving along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe was beautiful. Avis upgraded us without charge to a “larger vehicle”. Next time we will ask “how big”, as we ended up with a monster- a Ford Expedition Max!

 The first stop was as the Cave Rock boat ramp. The park employee was super helpful, giving Ed great ideas of things we should see while in the area. Noted here is that we have come from 90+ degree weather in Tampa to a brisk breeze and a temp in the 50’s. We have jackets on and love the change!

  We check into the Forest Suites Resort, a nice, comfortable but somewhat dated resort but with a really good location being across one street from the Shops of Heavenly Village which houses the Heavenly Ski Resort gondola and bunches of restaurants including ice cream.

 A short drive takes us to the Lake Tahoe Harbor where the Hilton Vacation Club Lake Tahoe Resort South is located. This is where we will stay the last four nights.
