Toilet Paper, Towels and Hot Water

Axum, Tigray, Ethiopia
Ethiopia is way ahead of the western world in conservation!
The housekeeping staff is very careful to provide only the amount of toilet paper that might be needed in one day (it's a good idea to have a roll with you - just in case). The towels are carefully rationed and controlled based on the number of beds in the room. If you have a room with two beds, you get two towels.   But, if you have a room with one double bed, even if two people are sharing you only get one towel. We asked for an extra towel at one hotel, which they gave us - no problem. We left both towels out to dry when we left for the day and when we came back we only had one towel! Since then we ask for another towel and hide one while we are out!
Hot water - very precious! We have had two hotels so far where there were issues with the hot water heaters. Here, each room with a private bath has a hot water heater - some work, some do not.
Overall, these very non-western issues conserve paper, water and electricity - all precious commodities here thus the lead in comment. Perhaps a lesson for all of us - if you don't have it easily accessible, you can't waste it!
