Our B&B is in the historic
centre of Anacapri.
We splurged on a taxi to get us to Anacapri.
After
checking in and a walk around the historic centre of Anacapri we took the Chairlift to Monte Solaro and Cetrella.
From the top you see the entire island from
its highest point, a 360 degree panorama of the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrentine
Peninsula and the islands of Ischia and Procida.
Gary wasn't thrilled about the heights and being in a chairlift but . . . he made it!
Thursday started with a 'walk'. The Phoenician Steps . . . 921
steps connecting Anacapri to the port of Marina Grande. Apparently
the steps were constructed by the Ancient Greeks, between the 7th
and 6th century BC and up until 1877 when the road between Capri and
Anacapri was completed, they were the only connection.
About ½ hour down (2 hours up . .
. which we didn’t do!) and great views. Gary was a little anxious to get down so you'll see he's a bit ahead of me in the photos!
After lunch, we took an island tour with Motoscafisti Capri, one of the
many boat tours of the island . . . in less than 2 hours we toured around the
whole island.
While we opted not to
visit the Blue Grotto (too long a wait to get in!), we did see the Statue of
the Scugnizzo, the coloured caves -- coral, green, red and white, the natural
arch and the faraglioni as well as the lighthouse at Punta Carena.
While still in Capri, we took the
funicolare from Marina Grande up to Plaza Umberto and walked a loop before taking
the funicolare back down to catch a bus back to Anacapri. Not a great afternoon for photos ... quite overcast ... and the views were similar to what we saw from the chairlift.
A little drizzle tonight so no sunset at the lighthouse. Just dinner & packing.
Tomorrow we're off to Maiori . . . 2 ferries from Capri. TBD whether we go to Amalfi or Positano to catch the ferry to Maiori.
