Sicily ... A Visit to the Aeolian Islands

Lipari, Sicily, Italy
Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands,  a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea, north of  Sicily.
After depositing the car with one of the local indoor garages and packing our overnight bags, we caught the 9:30 ferry, arriving in Lipari round 10:30.    Bigger than we expected with great streets and lanes for wandering.
A bit of a wander . . . lunch . . . and a beach!  We didn't quite make it to the famous White Beach (got off the bus a little too soon) but did enjoy a few hours on Canneto.
It's Monday!  A short walk to the port to meet up with Giovanni for a boat trip around Vulcano, a small volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, located at the southernmost end of the eight Aeolian Islands.  It contains several volcanic caldera, including one of the four active volcanoes in Italy that are not submarine.
A beautiful sunny +35c ... perfect to be on the water looking at this amazing place, stopping several times for a dip.
While we did swim in to walk the pumace beach and get off to soak in the hot spring we skipped Giovanni's offer to swim into one of the many tunnels ... although he assured us he'd be at the other end to meet us.
Back in port just after 1 ... a great start to the day.
We walked up to the Museum after lunch.  Decided to just walk the grounds.  Naps won out over artifacts.
We have an 11ish ferry back to Lipari in the morning.  Time to retrieve the car and head to Cefalu.
