Goza, Comino ... and Goza!

Gozo, Malta
Saturday.
After our new breakfast favourite, pastizzi, we caught the bus and headed in the opposite direction...to Cirkewwa, to catch the ferry to Goza.
A 25 minute ferry crossing and we're in Gozo.
Continuing with our bus passes, we caught the bus to Victoria Square.  A short walk and we arrived at the Cittadella.
We spent about an hour wandering around and climbing up & down steps.  No time for a visit inside the Cathedral of the Assumption  though as we were planning to catch the bus Dwejra.  However, as we looked for the schedule a driver told us that the road to Dwerja was closed for repairs but should be open tomorrow :-(
So, we caught the bus back to the Gozo ferry docks.  Checked out the boats going to Comino & the Blue Lagoon returning to Malta (rather than Gozo).  That settled ... off for some lunch.
Fed, watered and boat tickets in hand, we were about to board when Gary noticed he'd left his favourite hat at the restaurant.  Bye Bye Hat! :-(
What were we thinking!  The first warm sunny day in Malta in over a week ... apparently they've had some wicked weather with high winds blowing boats out of the water and just nasty cold, wet and windy. It's been improving daily and today, Saturday, is the best yet!  And, it looks like Comino is the place to be.  We were just coming for a swim and some sun so didn't have the right footwear to walk the trails.  A short swim and we headed back to Malta . . . just too crazy.
We had planned for our last day to just go to one of the beaches.  But, we really did want to see the blue hole so we decided to do the trek back to Gozo and head for Dwerja . . . planning to walk down the steep, winding road from San Lorenz (&back up) if the road was still out.  Luckily, all was well with the roads and we made it.
It was well worth a second trip to Gozo.  The Blue Hole is a natural rock formation carved out over the centuries by wind and waves.  Sadly, the world-renowned Azure Window collapsed in March 2017 after heavy storms and was 'lost to the sea'.
We took a 15 minute boat trip in the 'inland sea', going through caves and a huge crevice known as The Chimney and checked out where the window used to be.
We then walked along the rocky coast overlooking the blue hole and the fantastic coastline.
After a swim in the inland sea, a little sun and a cocktail, time to head back.
A great day!  And, to make it even better, the 'hat is back'!  Our server from yesterday had set it aside in the hope it's owner would return!
Time for one last dinner, a shower and packing.  Pick-up is at 5:30 AM for our flight to Munich.
