Thursday 5 February Hobart

Sunny and a cool breeze 19

Today we went to Port Arthur, we had coffee and breakfast at Cambridge which is town about 15km from Hobart where we left our car and travelled together for the rest of the way . It was a very pretty trip in parts as we passed the water and eventually through Eagle Hawk Neck where the dogs were kept to guard the entry/exit to Port Arthur. It was a well organised day with an introductory talk for 40 mins to start the tour then a 20 min boat trip on the harbour. We were then left to explore the buildings including the Commanders House, The Asylum, the separate prison, the parsonage and the church. We stopped for lunch around 2.30 and finished the tour by walking through the beautiful gardens. As we left Port Arthur we stopped at the Lavender Farm and the boys had ice cream while I checked out the gift shop. It was a very enjoyable day.

Tonight we went to the restaurant attached to the Quarry apartments we are staying in. The meal was very nice. Tomorrow we move from here as we could only arrange for 2 nights here as the wooden boat festival is currently on and the hotel was booked out for the following days.
