Golf @ Plantation

Kaanapali, Hawaii, United States
Another early start (who’d have thought we were on holiday?) leaving at 6.30 am to play golf on the Kapalua Plantation course that is home to the annual USPGA Hawaiian Open event in January each year. Plantation is about 15 mins drive north of our resort. It is in a truly spectacular setting on a hillside above the coast and with a beautiful and a very challenging golf course. Our tee time is 7.30 am so we have time for a bucket of balls, a few putts and a cup of coffee before teeing off.
We are joined by two other men who have brought their wives to ride with them in their carts. The wives did not play, but to ride with a player is an additional USD50 on top of the USD350 for an individual to play 18 holes on the course.
The course was great but the rough (if you cannot make/keep to the fairway) is quite spongy and about twice the depth of a golf ball – very easy to lose your ball in it. None of us played exceptionally well but it's probably the most satisfying game we have had since being here.
After the round, Don and Jane joined us for lunch in the Clubhouse looking out down the first tee to the resorts and beaches below. The food was very reasonably priced.
Back at the Resort in the evening, Don had ordered a selection of grillable items for dinner which he barbecues. We construct a salad and finish the left overs in the fridge. To top off the evening Don orders a Hula pie from the next door resort and we share it. After another game of cards, then we pack and prepare for an early exit tomorrow morning.
