Camarinas, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands
On Saturday we left the delights of La Coruna after being gale bound for a couple of days longer than we meant. It is a delightful city (no Brits and no-one speaks English) which we will undoubtedly re-visit.

The journey to Camarinas was in a Northerly swell from the previous winds with a bit of fog thrown in . Once we could get some sails up and the boat stopped rolling the journey became much more enjoyable. The coastline is extremely rugged and looks forbidding. As we approached the Ria de Camarinas we came into a delightful sea loch surrounded by hills and wind turbines. The harbour looked idyllic and we were met by the harbourmaster who took our ropes and tied the boat to a well placed pontoon - perfect. We signed up for 3 nights.

Our suspicions should have been aroused when a fishing boat covered in foliage and flags shot out from a dock, horns blaring, did a twirl and shot back in again. We then noticed, just behind our pontoon a couple of sod off stages with speakers the size of the boulder dam. That's right - it was fiesta time for the next 4 days. Add a fairground and you have the picture. It was the festival of Santa Carmen which involved the priest and congregation having a service on the fish quay, blessing the suitably garnished boats and the letting off of fireworks of military proportions, sounding horns and sirens , dancing, singing and a convoy of boats rushing around all over the place. That was just Sunday morning!

Every evening it went quiet until around midnight when everone came out to party on or around the stern of our boat (it seemed) intil 5.30 in the morning. Great fun, but not conducive to sleep.

To be honest we really enjoyed it but were getting pretty battered by Tuesday morning so departed for a place called Portosin where we arrived yesterday. Contrary to it's name it is a delightful quiet spot with a great yacht club and stunning views. More in the next blog.
