Villagarcia, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands
On Friday we left the lovely (but slightly boring) Portosin for pastures new. The sail down Ria de Muros and up Ria da Arousa was superb. Huge sandstone reefs, bleak islands with lighthouses like churches, loadsa fishing boats, sun, blue sea and millions of swimming crabs.

Our arrival at Ribeiro was, navigatinally, guite unnerving as we couldn´t positively identify the harbour entrance until we were nearly on top of it . However, this didn´t stop the harbourmaster being ready for us with an excellent berth with views over the town and alomg the immaculate sandy beach.

Sta Eugenia de la Ribiero is the sardine capital of Spain and we rapidly found the fish market and enjoyed sardines meuniere - delicious!

The yacht club, who run the marina, añso have an excellent restaurant where we dined on Sunday night prior to departing on Monday morning to head for Villagarcia and Gina´s dread doom at the dentist to get her a crown.

When we got up on Monday morning there was thick fog (vis.=100 yds). However, by the time we had done some food shopping and returned the vis was around 1 mile. We left at 11.30 and after a 2 hour journey arrived at Villagarcia de Arousa to be met by an English speaking harbour master. He directed us to a cosy berth which involved running the bow up to the pontoon and then picking up a couple of mooring ropes to anchors astern . This means that we have to climb up to the boat from the anchor.

On arrival we met a couple of English yachties who told us that we had arrived for the last couple of days of the local fiesta (bloody marvellous!!) and that the disco was about 50ft from the boats. Apparently it fired up at 02.00 in the morning and went on until 9.00.

In fact it was very quiet on the firstr night and non existent on the second - phew.

Villagarcia is a port and fishing town with beaches just by the marina and a modern shopping centre but also a very attractive "old" quarter. Today we found a dentist who will see Gina on Friday but he reckons it will take about 2-3 weeks so we will be here for some time. This means that we will not be in Lisbon till mid September.

We are lucky being here because it is only 40mins from Vigo and Santiago on the train and we expect to see Will next week when he flies out on Ryanair to Santiago.
