Baiona, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands
On Sunday we left Villagarcia for the 40 mile trip to Baiona (Bayona) at 8.00 in the morning with a brisk (F4 to F6) wind up our stern. The trip down the Ria Da Arousa was quite lively and done at about 7 knots. However, once we were in the open sea the wind died to a dull force 2 in a few hundred yards - weird or what! We arrived in Baiona after an interesting journey past Islas Ons and the Islas Cies both of which had loadsa folks going to them on ferries and boats.

As we got closer to Baiona we noticed a smell of burning in the air and the visibility fogged . We arrived in Baiona at around 14.30 to see wall to wall boats. The marina staff were very helpful and gave us an excellent berth. Once we had settled we noticed a continual rain of ash falling on the boat apparently caused by hill fires in the area.

Baiona is the first real holiday resort that we have been to (if you exclude Troon) and it is crowded. It was once a fishing village which got ´discovered´ the front has loads of cafes and,on our first night, a fun fair and pop concert (the same band that we had at Camarinas)till 3.30 in the morning (kept Gina awake but I slept through it all).
Today we toured the castle and its environs. The views were stunning and the grounds were very peaceful.

Tomorrow we depart for Viana do Castelo in Portugal and are really looking forward to it.
