lovely Kerala backwaters

Alappuzha, Kerala, India
With a couple of expat friends from Germany and England we enjoyed a lovely long weekend in the backwaters of Kerala. We flew to Kochi early Friday morning and then drove south to Alappuzha, from where we started our houseboat tour.
After checking in we left the harbour and started off exploring the canals and its beautiful scenery. On the boat there wasn't much to do but relaxing, eating, drinking, reading, sleeping, talking and playing cards. And so it was deeply relaxing to just hang around and watching the scenery go by.
To get a better look at the smaller waterways and village life along it, we also took a small boat for a delightful sunset cruise. The crew treated us to some delicious Kerala food and just made sure we were well looked after.
After two days and nights on the boat we checked out on Sunday and spent the rest of the day exploring the old town of Kochi. A perfect weekend getaway!

No fishing rod in any of the pictures... was Roger feeling sick...? ;) Looks like you had a fun & relaxing getaway.
