Day 2 - Nashville, TN to Mt Vernon, IL

Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Pulled out of Grand Ole RV Resort at 11:15 am CST after getting hit by rain just as we were unhooking the electrical systems. No electrocution, thank goodness! Never quite got breakfast since we were required to be checked out by 11am (another early morn!). Headed to Illinois to meet our minimum goal of 250 miles per day. Our luck held out as we hit electrical storms in the mountains - first gas station was hit by lightening, but across the road was not, and they had the awesome price of $1.99/gal, so we filled up. Hadn't planned any stops today, but discovered Land Between the Lakes National Park and had to investigate. First had to cross the skinniest, highest, oldest extension bridge I've ever seen - what a challenge to my driving skills and fear of heights! Looked like the railings were as tall as the RV hubcaps and it was all I could do to keep my eyes focused on the road. On to a late breakfast/lunch at restaurant in KenLake Resort overlooking the lakes - at least no crowds, in fact, no other patrons at all! Then onto the Elk and Bison Prairie where we practiced our photography skills, waiting for the Elk to chew! While traveling, we realized we might be close to Bobbye Cole who now lives in souther IL - thanks to some help from staff on 8E, we tracked her down and like a miracle, she was off work and able to come meet us at our next campsite, Walmart in Mt Vernon, IL; she and her 3 beautiful daughters came and shared cookies with us in our new digs! Bobbye looks wonderful and is very happy here, so we are very happy for her! She is still working on her goal of attending nursing school in August, and I know she can do it and will make an excellent nurse! Many hugs and kisses for her family! Then a late night trip to Walmart (since it was in our yard!). And once again, loving our RV beds!! Another good day!
BTW, driving the RV is so improved since I invested in the Safe-T-Plus front end stabilizer - I have felt much more comfortable and can actually relax while driving! Thanks to their great customer service and excellent installation as it has made a huge improvement in stability on the road!

QUOTE OF THE DAY: while talking to guide at Kentucky Welcome Center about what Land Between the Lakes National Park is, he asks "Well, are you in a hurry?" And I love to reply, "No, but I do have to be in Alaska by June 20th!"
