Day 3: Mt Vernon, IL to Columbia, MO

Atlanta, Georgia, United States
It's a beautiful day in the Walmart parking lot, woke up with our other RV's, truckers, and one school bus. Took a walk with Sara around Flying J, Dollar Tree, and a few truck stops - these are busy places!! Found that I could get the RV weighed here, had meant to do it before leaving home, but this worked out just fine - turns out we weigh 12,540 lbs (6.25 tons) fully loaded - no more rickety bridges for us! Drove on, stopping outside St Louis at a rest area, and decided to whip up some grilled cheese sandwiches on the cast iron griddle - our first cook in the kitchen. Seeing the prairies and farms now, mostly beautiful flat roads and blue skies, but still cool and really chilly in the evening. We stopped early so we could take some time to work on this blog, but now it's 11:45 and we're still up writing. Made a simple, but so satisfying dinner of mushroom/black rice/ham soup, an arugula salad, and a crusty 9 grain bread. And "brownies by Bud" are the perfect compliment to any meal! Tonight's campground is out on the plains, except for a beautiful baseball complex next door which gave Sara a perfect place to have a free run - the best part is bathrooms here are rated 10 stars, so looking forward to a good shower in the morn (and it also serves as a tornado shelter should we need it!).
