Watson Lake, Yukon Territory, Canada
Woke up briefly at 2am, but didn't see Northern Lights, but the weather is gorgeous, probably 60 degrees now. We set out planning to find a hiking trail since we didn't have a very long drive to our next campground. But first we came to Allen's Lookout, overlooking the Liard River. While there, we met up again with the Swiss couple of yesterday - they are on quite an adventure and remind me of Ted and Magda, so we enjoyed a long conversation with them. They rented what looks to be an old VW Bus in Switzerland, had it shipped to US (Baltimore) and have driven cross country through US and Canada and now to Alaska, then on to Texas and somehow having this bus ferried to South America (Argentina) and flying home from there! I can't believe they are living out of this bus that doesn't look like it would make it to the corner, but we had a good laugh about it and it's the first vehicle that I have been forced to pass on these roads! Then we proceeded to Lucky Lake trail which led down to the Liard River overlook. There were actually kids swimming in the lake today. The hike was about 1.5 hours and had a wilderness view of the river, felt like Lewis and Clark were the only other humans to see this scene! Back on the road again and finally, we see the bison!! And a couple black bear, too! We rolled into Watson Lake to find we are registered at "Downtown RV Park", which means a grocery store, gas station, and Linda's Catholic Church all within walking distance. This town is famous for 72,000 signs in town - people add any sign they can (saw one from Kennesaw, GA, some from Germany, Jordan). We dumped and filled tanks, laundered, showered, walked, washed Sara, and finally settled in to catch up on Internet activities - but Internet is very limited, can't get it on my computer, but did on the iPad. It's 5:30 am EST, which means 2:30 am PST here but I just had to get this recorded before I lose internet again!!
