Day 42: and more Seward, Alaska!

Seward, Alaska, United States
Yep, still here! Woke to rain this morning and that reinforced our plans to lay low today. We did a walk about 11am with Sara, it was 52 degrees, which means it was in high 40's last night - freezing cold to me! Then we made a good breakfast and gathered up dirty laundry - Linda is so embarrassed that I plan to carry our laundry to the museum movie, so we can go directly to laundromat after the museum. Otherwise, it would mean coming back to RV between the two places - too much backtracking for me! So we arrive at museum to see the movie about the Alaska Earthquake of 1964, only to hear that it's not showing at the museum this year, now it's history of the Iditerod - so we watched the Iditerod movie telling how the 1100 mile trail was originally started to transport goods and later gold rushers to far north Nome, Alaska. By 1910, they had moved 10,000 gold rushers to the gold fields and later transported $30 million worth of gold out of the fields. Anyway, it was an interesting movie and we ended up buying the video of the Earthquake since that was not showing! And, yes, someone did comment on our bags of laundry, but did not seem to be laughing at us! So then on to Suds Laundromat! I can't believe the price of laundromats: $3.75 per wash load, $3.50 for 20 min of large capacity dryer time. I'm not feeling so bad about paying that huge price for my new washer/dryer at home!! While the clothes are washing/drying, we stop in at a few shops in downtown Seward - one is an art gallery/coffee shop in the town's original Methodist church - it's very cozy inside with lots of local artist's paintings on the walls. I also passed the Seward volunteer fire dept as they were returning from an emergency call - decided I would check for a souvenir for AJ, who is interested in a career in fire fighting. Met the fire station "Mom" who is married to the volunteer chief, they used to live in Brunswick, GA while he was in the Navy, and yes, I was able to buy a souvenir t-shirt to support their cause!! Back to the laundromat and then the RV - it's time to dump again, so we rush to do that before Linda walks back to church. I give Sara a walk, it's now drizzling and cold, but Alaskan children are still playing in the edge of the ocean and their parents are still sitting in chairs at the edge of the beach! I'm embarrassed to pull out my gloves, and I want some ear muffs, so Sara is cheated on her walk and we retreat to the RV to fix dinner! BTW, the brownies turned out pretty well last night, after jumping up to restart the convection oven every 5 minutes for the full cooking time! Small price to pay for a successful brownie batch!
Addendum: went back to close the shades on the RV, when what do I see? a weim that looks like Sara - first I check to make sure she didn't get out, then I grab Sara on leash, and Linda and I run out to meet our first Alaskan Weimeraner - turns out her name is Maggie (Linda's Weim's name) and she is 4 years old, camping with her family from Anchorage! We enjoyed talking to her family, then went down the beach pathway, where we met the family with 3 miniature, baby goats - very cute!! They are not weaned, still being bottle fed, so they had to come with the family for their camping weekend! The people and animals we meet!! Back to getting ready for bed, now it's REALLY cold out!!
